What is the Rooks Lecture?

Affiliated with the Center for the Study of Black Faith and Life, The C. Shelby Rooks Lecture Lecture being inaugurated celebrates Black Faith, Black Life, and Black Improvisation by bringing noted African-American Scholars to Chicago Theological Seminary . Join us for a refreshing reception that will lift your spirits with jazz, food, and cool beverages.  We will then ascend the “stairway of heaven” to the Graham Taylor Chapel to have our hearts and minds challenged, encouraged, and delighted by our guest lecturer.  This lectureship is dedicated to the memory and legacy of the Rev. Dr. C. Shelby Rooks [link to Rooks page].  Dr. Rooks was the first African American to serve as president of a predominantly white theological school.  He served the Chicago Theological Seminary as president from 1974 to 1984.
