Groundbreaking Leadership, Then & Now

Pastoral Care

Then
Anton Boisen was committed to experimentation and collaboration in theological education. While a faculty member at CTS, he worked with a group of CTS students to equip them to minister more effectively to the physically, mentally, and emotionally ill. From that experience, he helped to found the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) in 1930.

Now
CTS is widely recognized as a leader in the field of Pastoral Care. Chicago offers the richest array of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) settings in the nation––in hospital and other urban contexts. Moreover, CTS offers a cooperative Doctor of Ministry/ CPE program (the D.Min. in Religion and Health) with the Advocate Health Care System for students pursuing a hospital residency.
