Doctor of Philosophy at Chicago Theological Seminary

Criteria for Admission

Applicants to the Ph.D. program should have earned a master’s degree or equivalent in theology or religion from an accredited college, university, seminary or professional school and have a superior academic record in previous undergraduate and graduate education.

The Ph.D. application requires:

• Official transcripts;
• Four letters of recommendation, at least three of which should be academic;
• A sample research paper;
• Scores from the Graduate Record Exam (GRE). The GRE code for CTS is 1120.

International Applicants

International Applicants: all non-native English speakers who are applying to any degree program must submit a Test Of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of no lower than 550 paper or 217 computer. The TOEFL code for CTS is 1120.
