Hyde Park/Chicago Context

Chicago Theological Seminary is located in Hyde Park, a neighborhood in Chicago of 30,000 that is known for its cultural and religious diversity, educational excellence, creativity and social
activism. Hyde Park is also the home of the University of Chicago, University of Chicago Hospitals, the Museum of Science and Industry, The DuSable Museum of African-American History, a total of five theological schools as well
as many historic religious institutions.

All of this is situated on the south lakefront area of Chicago, the third largest metropolis in the U.S., home to three million people. Chicago is a
major center of higher education, cultural expression and commerce.

Hyde Park and the Chicago metropolitan area offer CTS students an opportunity to study, practice and develop tools for ministry in just about any real world context. Our students often combine classroom learning with work in church
communities, hospitals, street ministries and in a variety of other non-profit organizations.

When students need to nourish themselves or play, they can choose to delight their taste buds in restaurants offering cuisine from every part of the world; to bike along the city’s beautiful
lakefront parks; to be entertained by the most imaginative theatre or to explore the city via architectural tours. In addition, museums, music, sporting events and festivals of every flavor
abound.
