What is Genetics?

PAGE 1

GENETICS is the study of traits that are passed on from parent to child. Genetics also studies the variation of those traits within and between individuals. Traits can include characteristics like hair and eye color. They can also include hereditary family tendencies toward diseases like breast cancer and cycle cell anemia.

The study of traits in humans is called HUMAN GENETICS.

All the genetics necessary to build a human being is contained in the HUMAN GENOME.

The genome contains all of an organism’s DNA.

GENOMICS is the study of all the genes in an organism – their sequence, structure, regulation, interaction, and function.
