Annual Fund

Our Seminary, Our Future

Make a gift to Chicago Theological Seminary!

Your support makes a difference to our students and to theological education here at CTS.

Since 1855, CTS has been committed to training and nurturing pastoral ministers and religious scholars for work in the wider world and local churches. The Annual Fund of Chicago Theological Seminary (CTS) is the opportunity for alumni, congregations, and friends to ensure the strength and ongoing vitality of CTS. The purpose of the Annual Fund is to provide gifts of unrestricted income on a yearly basis.

How does your gift provide support to CTS?

The Annual Fund provides immediate support to Chicago Theological Seminary. Here are some examples of how the Annual Fund benefits students, faculty and the Seminary community:

  • Student & faculty research programs
  • Academic programs and centers of religious learning
  • Technology upgrades
  • Library acquisitions
  • Faculty teaching and course development
  • Mentoring, leadership & volunteer programs

Additionally, annual gifts will help support opportunities to foster meaningful public dialogue and learning around important theological and social issues of today through events such as the Ministerial and Lay Leadership Institute and Lectionary Workshops.

Gifts to the Annual Fund at Chicago Theological Seminary are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. Names of our donors and supporters are included in the annual Donor Roll, which is printed in the spring edition of our Tower News magazine.

CTS Student Stories

Merlyn Lawrence '11Merlyn Lawrence, M.Div. '11

My name is Merlyn Lawrence and I am a Master of Divinity student at CTS. I came to CTS to receive relevant, cutting-edge education, as well as exposure to theologies and worldviews that would challenge my faith and understanding. Already my faith has grown as I continue to experience God in new ways. I have not been disappointed.

I seek to eradicate the “isms” and all forms of oppression, especially facilitating truth, reconciliation and healing among individuals, groups, and communities. My time at CTS has refined my skills for ministry. As I prepare for ordained ministry whether in a local church or in more global settings, I look forward to seeing what God has in store for me.

Eileen Gebbie '12Eileen Gebbie, M.Div. '12

My name is Eileen Gebbie and I am a Master of Divinity student preparing for parish ministry. I am also the 2010/11 recipient of The Rev. Robert G. Kemper Scholarship Fund. I knew this would be a place that would deepen my understanding of faith. I also knew from its mission as a Seminary that transformation towards mercy and justice would be an important part of my journey here.  As a gay woman of God, I am inspired by the teaching and theological work of our faculty and of the commitment to discovering healing and justice around issues of sexuality in the Church.

After graduating from CTS, I hope to serve in a local church. Through ministry, I seek to facilitate worship, education, and community organizing that will create safe space for personal understanding of one’s faith.  I hope to build a congregation willing to speak out and work on issues of racism, white privilege and poverty.  I continue to be challenged, fed, and healed by my CTS seminary community.
