Inaugural Event: Schaalman Chair in Jewish, Christian, & Islamic Studies

On April 27, 2010, Chicago Theological Seminary celebrated the inauguration of its first Rabbi Herman E. Schaalman Chair in Jewish Studies, Rabbi Dr. Rachel S. Mikva. At the downtown Gleacher Center, Rabbi Mikva served as moderator for a panel discussion on “Morality and the Marketplace” with panelists Hon. Abner J. Mikva, Prof. William Schweiker, and Ms. Susan Merrill.

This inaugural celebration brought together CTS students, alumni/æ, staff, faculty, and trustees, along with members of Chicago’s Jewish community and supporters of the Seminary’s Center for Jewish, Christian and Islamic Studies. Two pillars of Jewish-Christian Studies at CTS were also in attendance: Rabbi Herman Schaalman, the Schaalman Chair’s namesake, and Prof. Emeritus André LaCocque, who led the Jewish-Christian Studies Center from its infancy.
