Interlibrary Loan
CTS students, faculty, and staff may borrow books or obtain photocopies of materials not owned by Hammond Library through our interlibrary loan system. An Interlibrary loan request form, found at the Circulation Desk, must be completed and turned in to the Technical Services Librarian. A charge of $0.25 per day is levied for overdue interlibrary materials.
- ACTS libraries are part of a courier system that runs 3 times a week. Requests placed to an ACTS library are normally received within 7-10 day and are free of charge.
- OCLC is a national computerized system that enables interlibrary loan among libraries across the world. Requests placed through OCLC can take 2-4 weeks to be filled. There may be a minimal charge imposed by the lending library.
Computer Center
There are five computer terminals in the Library that patrons can use to access the Internet, OCLC FirstSearch databases, and two CD-Rom programs (Bible Works and ATLA Religion Indexes). Several of the computers have Korean software. All the computers have Microsoft Word for patrons to do word processing and also have access to a laser jet printer. Cost for the printer is $0.10 per page.
First Search databases can be used in the library or at home. To log on, go to http://newfirstsearch.oclc.org/. Contact the Library for the CTS authorization number and password. WorldCat is for locating books. For religious/theological articles, click on "List all databases" and select ATLA Religion. The database includes some full text articles, as well as citations of articles in journals/periodicals and essays in books.
Photocopier
The photocopier is located in the Library office. Cost is $0.10 per copy. Procedures for use are:
- Get auditron at the Circulation Desk, put it in the machine in counter box right hand side of the copier, turn on the copier.
- Write down name and beginning number on the white page of notebook.
- Make copies, remove auditron, turn off the copier.
- Write down ending number in notebook.
- Return auditron and pay for copies at the Circulation Desk.
Study Carrels
There are 3 general use and 15 reserved study carrels on the top and middle levels of the stacks. Full time commuter students and students with children are given priority for the reserved carrels. Information on getting a reserved carrel may be obtained from the Assistant Librarian.

New Books
A bibliography of newly received books is printed in Insight. The new books are shelved on the left-hand shelves as you enter the Reading Room. Requests for purchasing a new book may be made to the Head Librarian.

CTS students have library privileges with the libraries of the Association of Chicago Theological Schools (ACTS). An ACTS borrower identification card is needed to check out materials. Obtain this card from the Assistant Librarian or the Technical Services Librarian.
