    Zachary Moon (MDiv 2010)is a commissioned military chaplain who previously served as a chaplain in the VA hospital system and with combat veterans in residential treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. He is a PhD candidate at Iliff School of Theology. He is the author of Coming Home: Ministry That Matters with Veterans and Military Families (Chalice Press, 2015).  He recently had an article published on Huffington Post:  "American Sniper and the War Story We Cannot Tell."  Click here to view.

    Rev. Bryan Sickbert (MDiv 1976) is retiring at the end of the year after more than two decades of service as president and CEO of the Council for Health and Human Services Ministry of the United Church of Christ.  He was given a warm sendoff at the conclusion of the UCCB fall meeting on Saturday, Oct. 18. Sickbert earned his M.Div. degree from Chicago Theological Seminary, and an MBA from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. Before joining CHHSM, he was the administrative resident and director of medical affairs for Good Samaritan and Bethany Hospitals in Chicago. He has also served as minister of mission at First United Church of Oak Park, Ill., and as director of housing rehabilitation for the Village of Oak Park.  Click here for more info.

    Rev. Andria Davis (MDiv 2013)was ordained on September 14 at Church of the Beatitudes United Church of Christ in Phoenix, Arizona where she serves as Associate Minister and Youth Director. Howard Nelson, director of financial aid at CTS was present for the service.  

    Sarah Lohrbach (MDiv 2014) has recently been called to serve as Minister for Youth and Children at Peace Memorial Church (UCC) in Palos Park, IL

    Rev. Dr. David J. Dalrymple (PhD 2007) has been affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Charleston, West Virginia since 2008. He has maintained his private practice of Jungian Psychoanalysis as Director of theTriStateConsultation Services. He has been adjunct faculty in the Religious Studies Department of Marshall University teaching courses on Psychology of Religion, The Mythological Unconscious, and Religion and Depth Psychology. He is also resident Training Analyst teaching at the Kentucky Psychoanalytic Institute in Louisville. He will retire as Executive Director of the American Board for Accreditation in Psychoanalysis, Inc. on December 31, 2014. ABAP, Inc. recently held semiannual meetings at the C.G. Jung Institute of Chicago at which time Dalrymple was awarded an "Outstanding National Leadership Award " with appreciation for his vision, dedication, and organizational leadership have served as its first Chair from 1996 to 2000 and since as its first Executive Director of Accreditation.

    Rev. Dr. Scott Couper (MDiv 1999) is a lecturer at Seth Mokitimi Methodist Seminary (SMMS) and the University of KwaZulu-Natal (School of Religion, Philosophy and Classics) in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.  

    Rev. Waltrina Middleton (MDiv 2010)was recognized in Rejuvenate magazine's "40 Under 40" cover feature in the August/September issue for the work she is doing in youth ministry. Middleton is the Minister for Youth Advocacy and Leadership Formation for the United Church of Christ. Click here to read the article.

    Rev. Joy Baumgartner (MDiv 1987) recently retired from full time ministry and after serving two interim ministries in Nantucket, MA, and Lansing, MI, is doing supply ministry and preaching for colleagues in Illinois and Wisconsin. Rev. Baimgartner recently moved to Loves Park, Illinois and is transferring her membership to First Congregational Church in Beloit, WI. 

    Carlos Fernandez (MA 2008) has been made a full faculty librarian at Florida International University. As the International Documents Librarian, Carlos is responsible for the development and maintenance of the collection. Furthermore, he is responsible for the maintenance of the University's United Nations and the European Union (UN/EU) depositories. Carlos is also the liaison to the International Relations Department at the School of International and Public Affairs, where he provide lectures to students on proper research methods and am available for private research consultations.

    Kirk Laubenstein (MDiv 2014) has been named Executive Director of Coalition for Economic Justice in Buffalo, NY. Kirk is excited to work helping make sure that Western New York working families have dignity, respect and fare wages in the work place.

    On June 6 Wisconsin alumni/ae and friends met for dinner at Green Lake Conference Center, Green Lake, Wisconsin. Some twenty persons attended to hear remarks by John Thomas, Visiting Professor in Church Ministries, and Dow Edgerton, Professor of Ministry. The dinner was incorporated into the Annual Meeting of the Wisconsin Conference - United Church of Christ.

    On June 15, Alums Rev. Eileen Gebbie (MDiv 2012) and Rev. Paul Kittlaus (BD 1959) hosted an afternoon reception for CTS alumni/ae at Pilgrim Place, a UCC Retirement Community in Claremont, CA. President Alice Hunt spoke to the group and presented a 75th Anniversary Medal to Dr. Marilee Kone Scaff (BD 1940). 50-year medals were presented to Rev. Phillip A. Anderson (BD 1946), Rev. David Held (BD 1946), Rev. David Jamieson (BD 1955), Rev. Paul Kittlaus (BD 1959), and Rev. Larold Schulz (BD 1963) (Deceased). His wife, Donna Danielson, a Pilgrim Place resident, accepted this recognition. Earlier on June 15, President Hunt preached at Claremont United Church of Christ, where Rev. Gebbie is Senior Minister. Hunt gave the keynote address at the annual meeting of the Southern California and Nevada Conference of the United Church of Christ on Saturday, June 14.

    Aram Mitchell (MARL 2013), through the work and discernment of Pastor Eileen Gebbie (MDiv 2012) and the Claremont United Church of Christ Staff/Parish Relations Committee, has been hired as the inaugural Congregational Minister for Children at Claremont United Church of Christ.

    Rev. Rob Leveridge (MDiv 2007) published a new album and songbook of original rock-oriented worship music for communities passionate about justice, peace and radical welcome. The album, titled Dancing On The Mountain, features 13 songs with lyrics shaped by the teachings and example of Christ and articulate the language of progressive Christianity.     Rev. Margaret Vredeveld (MDiv 1993) has recently published a collections of meditations, Soothe Your Soul: Meditations to Help You through Life’s Painful Moments. Rev. Vredeveld was ordained as a UCC minister 20 years ago on December 5, 1993 and served Clare Congregational Church in Clare MI for 14 years. Her daughter, Sheri Joy, was a musician at the church. The book is dedicated to her memory and is available on amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, and abbottpress.com.

    Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III (DMin 2012) Rev. Moss, Senior Pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ, Christian Activist and Cultural Critic, recently rented 3 theaters in Chicago and 700 people from the church went to see the film, "12 Years a Slave," a powerful film all faith communities should watch and discuss. Rev. Moss shared his Discussion/Study Guide with all of us at Huffington Post Religion.

    Dr. E.L. Kornegay Jr. (PhD 2013) founder and director of the Baldwin~Delaney Institute, and a CTS Adjunct Professor, has written, A Queering of Black Theology: James Baldwin's Blues Poetics and Gospel Prose (Black Religion/Womanist Thought/Social Justice) which will be available on Amazon December 11, 2013. Rev. Lisa N. Seiwert (MDiv STM 2012) The newly Reverend Lisa Seiwert celebrated her ordination and installation on October 24 in the CTS Chapel.  This milestone establishes what the United Church of Christ calls a “four-way covenant” between Lisa, her calling body (CTS), the Grand West Association in Michigan, and First (Park) Congregational UCC in Grand Rapids where she is a member.  As one of the UCC settings in this covenant, CTS hosted the service, Rev. Todd Petty, pastor from First (Park) and representative for the Grand West Association, preached and conducted the rite of ordination and installation. Members of the CTS community joined in this special celebration.

    Rev. Craig B. Mousin (MDiv 1987) We hear from many alumni/ae about the important role Chicago Theological Seminary played in their formation and call to ministry, yet it's not often we are able to share their story so beautifully. Rev. Mousin, University Ombudsperson, DePaul University, and CTS Life Trustee, created a video about his journey. We are happy to share that video with you here.

    Dr. EL Kornegay Jr (PhD 2013) will be "bringing the word" at First Church of the Brethren Chicago on Sunday, October 27th at 11:00 a.m. (Which happens to be Higher Education Sunday!)

    Cindi Knox (MDiv 2013) participated in a panel discussion on "LGBTQ and Religion" at Aurora University on October 22.

    Susan Soric (MDiv 2012) and Cindi Knox (MDiv 2013) helped lead two "energizers" at the combined UCC Chicago Metropolitan Association / Fox Valley Association meeting: one on living into Open and Affirming after adopting the OnA statement, and one on bullying of LGBTAQISO youth. Classmate Alli Baker (MDiv 2013) helped in the development of the programs.

    Susan Soric (MDiv 2012) & Claire Purkis, Cindi Knox (MDiv 2013) and Mary Dycus are having a double wedding in November at Journey UCC in Coralville, IA.
