Event Details

Sarah Ward took her masters degree in art therapy and built a thriving non-for-profit art center. She began in 2001 teaching 18 students two days a week in a rented studio, and by 2015 had moved into a 6,000 sq. ft facility, where she now leads a staff of six and a roster of 30 teaching artists who provide a broad range of visual arts projects to over 3,700 participants. Her organization, called Sky Art, partners with schools in neighboring communities and organizations such as the Park District and Public Libraries, and it receives generous support from government agencies, foundations, and corporations. Sarah will discuss how she took an idea and a passion and turned them into a successful and thriving non-profit organization.
