Event Details
This event has been postponed to a date TBD.
On March 15, 2019, a white supremacist attacked two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, killing fifty Muslims. The New Zealand attack was similar ideologically to the shooting at a mosque in Quebec City just over 3 years ago, on January 29, 2017, in which the shooter killed six Muslims. Reflecting on the significance of these events for the relationship between Muslim minorities and non-Muslim majorities in the western nation, in this lecture, Dr. Uzma Jamil will discuss global discourses of Islamophobia and how they intersect with contemporary political discourses of xenophobia and white supremacy that circulate nationally and globally.
A reception will be held at 5:15pm and the lecture begins at 6:00pm.
