Chicago Theological Seminary (CTS) is pleased to announce Dr. Alex Jean-Charles as its new Director of Online Learning effective July 1, 2020. Dr. Jean-Charles previously served as Assistant Professor of Educational Technology at Missouri State University and brings to CTS almost ten years of experience in this area.

Dr. Jean-Charles holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Technology Education from The City University of New York; a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction (Instructional Technology) from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University; and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, with a focus on Educational Technology for Learning, Teaching, & Agency from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Champaign, IL.

Most recently, Dr. Jean-Charles designed an app for the Study Away Haiti Program at Missouri State University. The app provided common phrases translated from English to Haitian-Kreyol with both an audio and phonetic translation. Dr. Jean-Charles has studied the use of Artificial Intelligence technologies embedded in LMS as a means to support and facilitate an efficient, constructive, authentic, and engaging classroom environment.

“The addition of Dr. Jean-Charles to the CTS community will further enhance our online potential and reach. He is quite resourceful and will help us to pursue more the partnering of technology and online pedagogy with larger societal issues,” notes Vice President of Academic Affairs and Academic Dean, Stephanie Buckhanon Crowder.

Dr. Jean-Charles stated, “Technology has been a passion of mine since an early age. In addition, my commitment to social justice issues and my interests in the use of technology as a social justice tool are something I look forward to exploring with faculty, staff, and students.”
